Governing Documents

The Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA) is governed by its Board of Trustees who manages the affairs of AAAA as required by the Bylaws. The Board of Trustees consists of 13 Regular Fellows in AAAA. These 13 Regular Fellows include the elected officers: the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Immediate Past President, Adoption Director, and ART Director. In addition to the officers, seven additional trustees are elected: two from each of three different geographical regions and one additional at-large trustee elected from any region.

The elected officers of AAAA serve for one-year terms, with the exception of the two Directors who are elected for two-year terms. The Directors may not be elected to more than two consecutive terms. The non-officer trustees are also elected to two-year terms and may also not be elected to more than two consecutive terms.

The President of AAAA presides at the meetings of the Board of Trustees and at all meetings of AAAA and has those powers and responsibilities as are usually possessed by chief executive officers.

In addition to the 13 voting members of the Board of Trustees, the President of AAAA appoints a Treasurer and Secretary, with the consent of the Board of Trustees. The Treasurer and Secretary are non-voting members of the Board of Trustees and are not required to be members of AAAA.

AAAA also has three standing committees: CLE/Education, Finance, and Governance. In addition to these are a number of other committees as deemed appropriate by the President to create. Committee Chairpersons and members are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the President. AAAA is operated in accordance with its Bylaws. Additional membership rules are found in the Ethics Code of AAAA. Violations of the Bylaws or Ethics Code may be redressed through the Grievance Procedures of AAAA.
